Declarations of interest

There is no known conflict of interest. The co‐reviewer (FS) is a director of a contract clinical research company in the pharmaceutical industry. In her previous employment for another contract company she managed one of the European Phase III studies of memantine in vascular dementia. She is now not working with or for the manufacturer of memantine (Merz) and the review is being conducted independently of her employment.

We thank Corinne Cavender for her contributions as consumer editor.

PICO

Population
Intervention
Comparison
Outcome
