Contributions of authors

An earlier version of this review was developed by Bhuta and Henderson‐Smart and published in 1996. Both authors were involved at all stages in the review. In 1999 the review was reformatted by Henderson‐Smart with inclusion of two new reviewers, Cools and Offringa. Each author evaluated the trials and extracted data independently. Henderson‐Smart entered the data and wrote the text while all the co‐reviewers contributed to data checking and editing. The current update included a search by Henderson‐Smart and the inclusion of one new trial which was evaluated by all authors.

El uso y la enseñanza del modelo PICO están muy extendidos en el ámbito de la atención sanitaria basada en la evidencia para formular preguntas y estrategias de búsqueda y para caracterizar estudios o metanálisis clínicos. PICO son las siglas en inglés de cuatro posibles componentes de una pregunta de investigación: paciente, población o problema; intervención; comparación; desenlace (outcome).
