Don McFerran: does occasional work at the Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Centre, which was one of the departments that developed tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT). However, he was not involved in that development process and has not published specifically on the topic of TRT. He has also conducted research into a possible drug treatment for tinnitus with GlaxoSmithKline but this is unrelated to melatonin. It was a study regarding a novel compound called vestipitant, related to antidepressants. The work has finished and been published: Roberts C, Inamdar A, Koch A, Kitchiner P, Dewit O, Merlo‐Pich E, et al. A randomized, controlled study comparing the effects of vestipitant or vestipitant and paroxetine combination in subjects with tinnitus. Otology & Neurotology 2011;32:721‐7. Since starting this review Don McFerran has become involved with another drug company, Autifony, and he is receiving payment for consultancy work. This trial is investigating another novel compound, AUT00063, and is also unrelated to melatonin.
John Phillips: currently conducting research into a possible drug treatment for tinnitus with Auris, but this is unrelated to melatonin. This trial is investigating a novel compound called AM101.
Malinee Laopaiboon: none known.

We would like to acknowledge the work done on antidepressants for patients with tinnitus by Baldo 2012. This review shares a similar format to both the work done on antidepressants (Baldo 2012) and tinnitus retraining therapy (Phillips 2010) to conserve clarity with respect to reviews of tinnitus.
