Contributions of authors

Ariane Plaisance will be coordinating this project under the supervision of Patrick Archambault. She is a community health MSc. student and has taken part in writing this protocol. She will participate in all phases of this review. She will lead the screening of articles and grey literature, contact authors and experts in the field. She will also conduct data extraction, conduct the risk of bias analyses, participate in the statistical analyses and conduct the primary and secondary analyses. Finally, she will be writing the final report including the discussion.

Patrick M Archambault is leading this project. He wrote the protocol and will take part in the screening of articles and grey literature, contacting authors and experts in the field. He will also supervise data extraction, conduct the risk of bias analyses, supervise the statistical analyses and conduct the primary and secondary analyses. Finally, he will be writing the final report including the discussion. He will also be responsible in coordinating the knowledge translation and future updating of this review.

Tom H van de Belt has contributed to write this protocol. He will take part in screening articles and grey literature. He will perform data extraction, conduct risk of bias assessments and take part in the primary and secondary analyses. Finally, he will also take part in the writing of the discussion and final report.

Marjan J Faber has contributed to write this protocol. She will take part in screening articles and grey literature. She will also have an advisory role in the data interpretation and writing process.

Craig Kuziemsky has contributed to write this protocol. He will take part in screening articles and grey literature. He will perform data extraction, conduct risk of bias assessments and take part in the primary and secondary analyses. Marie‐Pierre Gagnon has contributed to write this protocol. She will take part in conducting risk of bias assessments and take part in the primary and secondary analyses. Karine Aubin is an information specialist who has contributed to the writing of this protocol and contributed to the first version of our search strategy. She will take part in the primary and secondary analyses. She will also participate in the writing of the discussion and the final report.

Julien Poitras has participated in the writing of this protocol. He will participate in the analysis of the results and share his expertise as a decision maker/future knowledge user in his role as Vice‐Dean at the Faculty of Medicine at Université Laval. He will participate in the writing of the final report and participate in supporting future knowledge translation initiatives targeted at different academic knowledge users.

Tanya Horsley provided feedback and contributions to the draft protocol. She will conduct risk of bias assessments and analyses. Finally, she will also contribute to providing important insights to interpreting the results and drafting the final report. Throughout this review, she provides invaluable expertise in continuing professional development and methodological expertise for evaluating and reporting medical education research in the context of randomised trials and systematic reviews.

Jean Lapointe has participated in writing this protocol. He will participate in the writing of the final report and discussion. He is a designated knowledge user working at l'Institut National d'Excellence en Santé et Services Sociaux du Québec (INESSS). His role as a decision maker is to accredit trauma hospitals in the Province of Quebec. He will participate in the active knowledge translation of our review results. He will provide his expertise in continuing quality improvement and system‐wide performance indicator analyses.

Stéphane Turcotte is a biostatistician. He will be consulted to support the team in terms of systematic review statistical methods and analyses.

Jean Lachaine is a pharmacoeconomist and associate professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Université de Montréal. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Quebec Institut national d'excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS) as the expert in pharmacoeconomics. He will lead the economic analysis of our review and has reviewed the economic evaluation aspects of this protocol.

Kevin Brand specializes in methods for human health risk assessment/management. He has applied methods from uncertainty analysis, decision analysis, and demography to problems such as chemical safety, health equity (e.g. in systematic reviews), and health economic evaluation (e.g. ongoing work on breast‐cancer screening). He reviewed the methodology of our economic analysis and will participate in its conduct.

William Witteman has provided peer review for the initial search strategy for this review (for Ovid MEDLINE), and will design the search strategies for all of the databases and interfaces. He will participate in the creating of our citation database and manage the information collected during this review. His previous expertise in conducting health economic analyses will also support the team's economic analysis section.

France Légaré has contributed to write this protocol. She will act as a senior advisor and mentor for all aspects of this protocol and review. She has led and participated in several Cochrane reviews in the past and will guide the primary and secondary analyses. Finally, she will also take part in the writing of the discussion and final report.
