The authors are aware of a new trial by Engel et al., entitled 'Quality of life in rectal cancer patients', Ann. Surg. vol 238 #2, August 2003, which fulfil the inclusion criteria for this review but is not included in the present version.
As this study was published after search was performed (December 2002/ January 2003), the CCCG editorial panel decided to publish the current review.
However, the current review will be updated shortly hereafter, including the above trial. The updated version will be published in CLib 2005 issue 1.
