Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews Protocol - Intervention

Antibiotics for the management of transient tachypnea of the newborn

This is not the most recent version

Abstract

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:

To assess whether:

  1. antibiotics ‐ compared to placebo or no intervention ‐ are effective and safe in the management of infants with a suspected diagnosis of transient tachypnea of the newborn;

  2. it is safe to withhold exposure to antibiotics for infants with a diagnosis of transient tachypnea of the newborn.

We will perform subgroup analyses regarding gestational age; birth weight; mode of delivery; route of administration; type of antibiotic (see Subgroup analysis and investigation of heterogeneity).
