Prophylactic surgical ligation of patent ductus arteriosus for prevention of mortality and morbidity in extremely low birth weight infants
Abstract
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:
The primary objective of this systematic review is to identify and summarize evidence from randomized controlled trials investigating effectiveness and safety of prophylactic surgical ligation of the PDA in reduction of mortality and morbidities in preterm infants less than 1000g at birth as compared to no prophylaxis or prophylactic cyclooxygenase inhibitors. Our secondary objective is to investigate the rule of prophylactic ligation in a subgroup of high risk infants < 750 g at birth.
