This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:

To assess the effects of interventions directed at patients prior to their consultations, designed to help them address their information needs within consultations, on outcomes for patients (and/or representatives), their doctors and nurses and the health care system.
