This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows:
To assess the effects of early versus delayed (traditional) initiation of oral intake of food and fluids after major abdominal gynaecologic surgery. Early oral intake is regarded as the intervention and delayed oral intake, the control method.
